Hello, I drove up to Ward and then Allenspark this morning thinking too the storm and cold night might bring rosy-finches and evening grosbeaks to the feeders, but I dipped on both.
At the bottom of Ward some feeders with black sunflower attracted downy, hairy woodpeckers, a few juncos, one steller's jay, both white and a red-breasted nuthatches and both chickadees. Near the post office another feeder had a couple of Clark's nutcrackers and tons of Steller's jays. I was met with some hostility there, so I moved on to Fawn Brook Inn in Allenspark. Again, tons of mountain chickadees, swarms of pygmy nuthatches, juncos and both woodpeckers. Most surprising was a pair of male red-winged blackbirds singing and coming in to feed. Still a very nice morning to be up in the mountains! Up there you forget spring is right around the corner...
