Hi all

 

Tom McConnell and I birded a few spots yesterday (Tuesday) in another
attempt to find a Western Colorado Hoary Redpoll. We scrutinised many
Redpolls, but all looked like Commons to us. We enjoyed a great day out
anyway. Highlights included

 

Walden (Jackson Cty)

60 Common Redpolls

10 Gray-crowned Rosy-Finches

 

Several Rough-legged Hawks south of town, along CO14 towards Muddy pass

 

Kremmling (Grand County)

10 Gray-crowned Rosy-Finches

1 Black Rosy-Finch

25 Common Redpolls

 

Roadside subdivision by CO9, at south end of Grand County (the entrance road
is named Spring Creek Road)

100+ Rosy-Finches including at least 5 Brown-capped

 

Silverthorne (Summit County)

15 Barrow's Goldeneye

150+Rosy-Finches 

 

 

Today, Wednesday,  I did my free bird tour at Snowmass Ski area (Pitkin
County)

 

Highlights included

40 Brown-capped Rosy Finches

2 Gray-crowned Rosy Finches

3 Mountain Bluebirds at 12,500 feet (flew over whilst we were looking at
fresh White-tailed Ptarmigan tracks.. but alas no ptarmigan

 

Fresh Mountain Lion tracks (mother and cub) - well spotted Lulu !

 

Next free bird tour will be at Snowmass on  Wednesday 27th March
