Jim Duggan and I were the sole observers on a Denver Field Ornithologists field trip to Denver City Park this morning. Highlights included 3 Bluw-winged Teal, 2 Hooded Mergs in first spring male plumage, a Cooper's Hawk in the midst of the heronry in Ferril Lake, 3 avocets, 4 Greater Yellowlegs, the Wilson's Phalaropes and Bonaparte's Gulls reported yesterday by Chris Rurik, a Say's Phoebe, a Marsh Wren and a male Audubon's Warbler, Cormorants are busy nesting on both Duck and Ferril Islands. Numbers of night herons on nests continue to grow. Canada Geese are struggling for the limited nesting turf on islands in both lakes. Full list below.
