Hello birders, I live in northwest Fort Collins and yesterday afternoon my husband and I had a first spring male summer tanager hanging around the suet for several hours. He was there again this morning. It is unmistakable in its markings. We live near Reservoir Ridge just up the hill from Michaud Lane.
For a while while working in the garden yesterday 2 male Bullock's orioles were zooming around the yard from tree to tree. A black headed grosbeak was also hanging around most of the day as were a couple of female Bullock's. At one time when we were looking at the summer tanager through the window, a male Bullock's and a bright male goldfinch were lined up feeding next to each other and the tanager was just above them on the tree. It was quite colorful. Sunday my husband also saw a Nashville warbler and a plumbeous vireo near Soldier Canyon in Lory State Park, among other migrants, including a chat and lots of lazuli buntings, catbird, cowbird, BG gnatcatcher, and tons of western tanagers.
