I arrived at Chatfield today, expecting my biggest worry to be too much heat too early. Got out of my car and realized that today's issue was going to be wind. Urg. With the most protected nets at the station and the nets at the Nature Center open, we banded 20 new and caught 3 birds from prior years:
Least Flycatcher 1 Dusky Flycatcher 3 Cordilleran Flycatcher 1 (FOS) White-breasted Nuthatch 1 return (Banded 2007) Gray Catbird 5 Yellow Warbler 1 new, 1 return (Banded 2006 as adult male) Spotted Towhee 1 Lincoln's Sparrow 4 White-crowned Sparrow, Mountain 1 Brown-headed Cowbird 2 new, 1 return (Banded 2011) House Sparrow 1 Open daily, weather permitting, through June 2. If you are thinking about visiting this weekend, come early. Assuming the wind is under control, there will be more birds early, and it is possible we will start closing by 10:30 or 11 if it really is as hot and sunny as predicted.
