Even tho Lisa and I still had 15 species of shorebirds today, we did note that
numbers in general are declining. While we had over 500 avocets last week, we
were down to about 250 this week. Best shorebirds were Snowy Plover, Stilt
Sandpiper, Long-billed Curlew, and Red-necked Phalarope. Shorebirds are
spreading out a bit more....check North Mallard and as always, pond #16, which
is the first gate on the right as you enter the wetlands area. One of the added
bonuses however, was the abundance of migrant warblers in the isolated trees in
the area. Wilson’s, MacGills, and Yellowthroat were the most common. Best of
the day was a Nashville Warbler that even stayed around for a few photographs.
All in Alamosa County.
