Saturday turned out cloudy and ideal for bird watching. We saw more birds
around the Audubon Nature Center than I've ever seen before, a collection of
fairly typical migrants. Despite the ominous weather before, the day ended with
slightly higher-than-average totals of birds & species: 64 species, 731
individuals.
Most intriguing along the trail, a big pile of bear poop (Terri Doolittle at
Denver Water had sent a picture of the bear) and a crayfish walking along the
trail far from the roiling South Platte.
Highlights included an immature - gray-headed - Red-headed Woodpecker and a
Townsend's Warbler at the Nature Center; a Magnolia Warbler just east of the
banding station, and a Peregrine headed east with determination.
