Ted et al,
OK, I have another pondering. The summer resident Chimney Swifts that nest in
several of the brick chimneys in Old Town (i.e., downtown) Fort Collins appear
to leave every year in either late July or early August. During my walk down
there last night on 2October at 6:45 to enjoy microbrew and jazz, at least 5
Chimney Swifts chattered overhead. In year's past I have noticed this same
pattern: local swifts in summer, no swifts for 6 weeks or so, then more swifts.
Am I correct in assuming the second wave is just migrants from somewhere n, w,
or e of here? Are we sure they are all Chimney Swifts and that there are no
Vauxs mixed in?

Hello, Birders.

At Greenlee Preserve, Boulder County, during the 5am hour this morning,
Thursday, Oct. 3rd, I heard and audio-recorded a light but steady passage of
calling White-crowned Sparrows. If you're interested, their flight calls look
like this: http://tinyurl.com/WCSp-Greenlee

After sunrise, I heard and saw a few Barn Swallows; cf. Leatherman's earlier
ponderings.
