Made a quick run around some of the reservoirs in northern Larimer today.
Highlights:
North Poudre #3 had a few Common Goldeneyes (FOS for me), a few White Pelicans,
but not a lot else of interest.
Tundra Swan (3) at an unnamed body of water a little over 1/2 mile w of the
intersection of CR 70E/CR11. This is just north of North Poudre #3. If you go
north from North Poudre #3 until you come to the T at 70E, turn left (west) and
go until you see a small power station on the right (north). The water body,
shown as temporary in the DeLorme, is just w of the little power station. This
place always seems to have a mix of diving/dabbling ducks and is worth
checking. As I viewed the swans a little before noon, they took off and flew
directly south. I went back and checked NPoudre#3 and they were NOT there.
They could be at any of the myriad lakes just north of FC, but would suspect
Terry Lake, Long Pond, Fossil Creek Res, maybe even Horsetooth Res, as places
they could have gone. Of course, they could be in Pueblo by now, too.
Common Loon and a few Bonaparte's Gulls at Douglas Reservoir. Not a lot of
other birds, really.
At Hamilton Res near the Rawhide Power Plant w of the I-25 Buckeye Exit, most
of the waterfowl were far off, per usual, along the southwest, west, and
northwest shores. Mostly Mallards, fair number of Western Grebes. A few White
Pelicans. Nothing unusual that I could see.
Timnath Res is filling up. The island and point that held most of the birds a
month ago are gone. No scoters or unusual gulls that I could find. One Common
Loon. One Double-crested Cormorant.
