Cobirders,

Let me urge you to follow Rachel Hopper's directions below and explore the
entirely redesigned Colorado Birds Record Committee web site. This upgrade
clearly puts Colorado and the CBRC in the upper echelon of rare bird records
reporting and documentation. I want to personally thank Rachel along with Ann
Johnson, the contracted vendor for these upgrades, and CBRC chair, Doug
Faulkner, for their personal efforts in making all of this possible. The
ever-dutiful Mark Peterson along with the whole of the CBR Committee and many
others who helped beta-test the site also deserve all of our thanks.

You will be both fascinated and impressed at what there is to find on this
site. Take a look.

On behalf of the Colorado Field Ornithologists, let me thank Rachel, Ann and
Doug again on a job well done for CBRC and CFO.

Bill Kaempfer
President, Colorado Field Ornithologists

Subject: [cobirds] Welcome to the New CBRC Site

Dear COBirders,

I would like to introduce you to the new Colorado Bird Records Committee site
by taking you on a tour. While this site is primarily used to document
sightings for the CBRC, it also has SO much more to offer! I have created a
brief tour of the site (below) to help acquaint you with all of the fantastic
features that are built into this great upgrade. I hope you will take some time
to look to look over the new site. To begin the tour, start below!

THE HOME PAGE. The Home Page contains ALL of the main menus for the CBRC site.
Check out the slide show of rare birds that have occurred in Colorado:
http://coloradobirdrecords.org/Default.aspx

WHAT IS THE CBRC is also on this page. Look for six green boxes each with a
check mark. Click on the title beside each box which to find detailed
information about the CBRC.

Click on WHAT TO REPORT near the slideshow box and it will take you to the
Colorado Review List plus several articles from the CBRC:
http://coloradobirdrecords.org/ReviewList.aspx

ENTER YOUR REPORT at the very bottom of the page takes you to the log in page
which is also where you can create a new account. If you had a previous account
with CBRC and have submitted records, we will link your two accounts together
so all of your records will be available to you in one place:
http://coloradobirdrecords.org/Reporting/

Now, back to the top menu. There are six items here. You do not need to be
logged in to use these features!
1) HOME PAGE. Takes you to the main CBRC page.
2) REPORT A BIRD. Takes you to the log in page or the ability to create a new
account. If you had a previous account with the CBRC just create a new account
and we will link up your old and new accounts so that all of your records will
be available to you.
3) WHAT TO REPORT. Takes you to the Colorado Review List plus several articles
from the CBRC: http://coloradobirdrecords.org/ReviewList.aspx
4) ARTICLES AND PUBLISHED REPORTS. Takes you to all published CBRC reports from
the chair all the way back to the first report in 1973. Click on the name of
the repot and it will come up as a PDF.
http://coloradobirdrecords.org/AnnualReports.aspx
5) REPORTS FROM THE DATA (which also has several submenus). Takes you to a
fantastic page. An amazing amount of information has been accumulated over the
years based on records reviewed by the Colorado Bird Records Committee. Use
these menu items to view results by year, by species, or to review your
personally entered records. To get started, select a species to see all of the
Colorado reports for that species (start typing the species name to filter the
list) or simply click on a species of interest in the list below:
http://coloradobirdrecords.org/Reports/
6) The last item in the main top menu is CONTACT THE COMMITTEE. Send an email
to the CBRC with questions, comments or concerns:
http://coloradobirdrecords.org/SendMsg.aspx

Now, go back and hold your mouse over REPORTS FROM THE DATA and you will see a
drop down menu that contains seven items.
            a) COLORADO STATE CHECKLIST. This link takes you to the current
state checklist: http://coloradobirdrecords.org/Reports/StateChecklist.aspx
            b) CREATE YOUR OWN QUERY. Select your own parameters to create a
report of accepted records. You may then download your selected records from
the CBRC database. Lots ways to create a query here so take a look:
http://coloradobirdrecords.org/Reports/AdHoc.aspx
            c) CBRC ANNUAL REPORTS. This link will get you to a report that
summarizes all actions for a given year. You can query by year or other filters
such as "Starts With" or "Contains":
http://coloradobirdrecords.org/Reports/AnnualReport.aspx
            d) REPORTS BY SPECIES. This has a submenu that is very cool! But
for right now, click on this link and you will go to the report page:
http://coloradobirdrecords.org/Reports/
            e) RECORDS BY YEAR. Select a year to view a map of all accepted
records received for that year. Then, click on the pin on the map or view more
details towards the bottom of this page displayed in a table:
http://coloradobirdrecords.org/Reports/RecordsByYear.aspx
            f) RECORDS NOT ACCEPTED. Here will you will find basic information
on records that have not been accepted by the CBTC but all of the information
has been archived: http://coloradobirdrecords.org/Reports/NAReviews.aspx
            g) REPORTS NOT REVIEWED. This is a list of documentation that have
been received for non-review species. The CBRC Chair accepts these reports and
processes the records for archiving:
http://coloradobirdrecords.org/Reports/Unreviewed.aspx

Now go back and place your mouse over REPORTS BY SPECIES and you will see a
submenu with three items:
            a) RECORDS BY SPECIES. Lets you see all RECORDS for a given species
or you can filter your selections even more:
http://coloradobirdrecords.org/Reports/SpeciesDetail.aspx
            b) SPECIES MAPPING. Select a species and see where it has occurred
in the state with colored icons that give you a date range:
http://coloradobirdrecords.org/Reports/SpeciesMapping.aspx
            c) SPECIES PHOTO GALLERY. See photos from all accepted reports
since the beginning of the online system. Older reports and photos will be
added as we have time: http://coloradobirdrecords.org/Reports/SpeciesPhotos.aspx

Let's go back to the top menu.

REPORT A BIRD takes you to the log in page or the ability to create a new
account: http://coloradobirdrecords.org/Reporting/
<http://coloradobirdrecords.org/Reporting/%20>

After this, YOU MUST be logged in to access the following features!

After logging in, click on REPORT A BIRD. If you have any incomplete
documentations, these will appear in the left bar of that page as a reminder to
complete them.

At the very top left of your screen you will see a link for MY ACCOUNT. Here
you can UPDATE PROFILE, CHANGE PASSWORD and also the MY DOCUMENTS link takes
you to the page where you can see all of your submitted documents

The top menu now contains FIVE items.
1) INSTRUCTIONS. Help is here!
2) ENTER A RECORD. This link takes you to the form to enter your sightings
3) UPLOAD FILES. Takes you to YOUR list of documentations and lets you upload
additional material if your report is still in "Pending" status.
4) MY DOCUMENTATIONS. Takes you to a list of all the records you have submitted
to the CBRC. Select a documentation by checking the checkbox. The
documentations that can still be edited are indicated by a pencil icon and will
give you the option of editing or uploading supporting files. Those that are
beyond the timeframe for edits (in process by the CBRC) may still be reviewed
and printed as desired.
5) FAQ. Answers basic questions about the site.

And finally, this completes the tour of the new CBRC site!

I hope you will take some time to explore all of the great new features AND to
enter your sightings of rare birds in Colorado. If you have any problems along
the way, please feel free to contact me.
