  I thought I sent the email below last Wednesday night but because I sent
it with the wrong email address it bounced (after more than a day I think).
It refers to Nick Komar's quick reply to my query that evening.

Nick (and COBirders),

  Thanks for the detailed comment on Jim Thompson's photo.  My assumption
that the bird was a fledgling stems from its partial mask that does not
extend toward the nape.  We frequently get both Northern and Loggerhead
shrikes on the Pueblo CBC and I have not noticed any with such an
abbreviated mask.  Now I know I need to spend some time looking at shrike
photos and observing more carefully in the field.  Hats off to Jim who, as
you have confirmed, nailed it.  :-)
