Georgia Doyle called at 7:30am today to report the Northern Parula is still
present off and on in the white oak in front of 813 W. Oak Street, Fort
Collins. This area is roughly a mile west of downtown. When I observed the
bird it was mostly in the oak eating aphids but it also left this tree on
occasion and spent time in neighborhood berry bushes, a water bath, a Siberian
elm, other oaks, etc.
Folks who live in the area know about this bird and the fact birders might be
coming around to look for it. Please respect their properties and parking by
staying on the sidewalk and street, not blocking driveways, etc. Thank you.
So how many warbler species have been seen in CO this November? By my count
there have been two Northern Parulas, Bay-breasted, Black-throated Green,
Yellow-rumped, Wilson's, Common Yellowthroat, Tennessee, and Blackpoll. Any
others? Remarkable. Besides Yellow-rumped, perhaps the one species somewhat
expected would be Pine and it's not on this list (yet).
