Hello Cobirders,

We've had 1-2 Steller's jays in our yard daily since Nov. 1. Today there were 3, possibly more, mobbing the resident Cooper's Hawk, along with blue jays and black-billed magpies. We're about 5 miles east of their usual haunts in the foothills. This is the first time we've seen them here in 14 years - most enjoyable visitors. Other birds of interest lately - the Cooper's Hawk had a mourning dove breakfast, leaving a huge pile of feathers for us to clean up. We've been feeding a flock of 25+ MO doves, which tend to attract the accipiters. A 1st year Northern Goshawk made an unsuccessful attempt to snag one last week. He paused long enough for a killer photo of him. We also watched a Red-tailed Hawk catch and eat a squirrel. YEA! They don't move quite as fast in the snow.
