I thought I'd do some foothill birding this morning, so I went up to White
Ranch. Oops. Where did all the wind come from? After hiking up ice
covered trails and walking at a near 45% angle to combat the wind (if it
had stopped suddenly, I'd have absolutely fell right on my face), I decided
that 5 Mountain Chickadees just weren't worth the effort. I made my way
down to Prospect Park in Wheat Ridge. I walked along the greenbelt and
found a calling Virginia's Rail on the west side of the boardwalk, just
opposite a calling/briefly appearing Marsh Wren. After walking through a
gauntlet of gregarious canines, I stumbled upon one of the Bushtit flocks
the area is known for. They are tough little buggers to pin down, but one
or two stayed still for two or three seconds. They were constantly
calling, which was a really nice sound to hear.
