Sandhill Cranes are arriving in the San Luis Valley, although there still is
quite a bit of snow on open fields, but we are enjoying a tropical heat wave at
last. My first sighting was a small flock of cranes on the wing SW of Alamosa
on 2/12. Today water is being put into ponds at Monte Vista National Wildlife
Refuge, and quite a few cranes are reported (500+) there. Monte Vista Crane
Festival is March 7-10, so come on down.
