Sorry for the slow posting of some additional highlights from Mar 3. The male BARROW'S GOLDENEYE was still near the NW boat launch, this time feeding over by the tower. My first HORNED GREBE of the season was in the same area. A WESTERN GREBE was near the sand spit east of the marina. A flock of 11 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS (4 males) was along Plum Creek downstream of the bridge near the picnic area, with a WILSON'S SNIPE also there. The Plum Creek Nature Area had a calling VIRGINIA RAIL, A female NORTHERN HARRIER, and two WOOD DUCKS. Another 38 MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRDS were near the horse corrals. Trailmark Pond had a heft 268 REDHEADS.
My family recently moved to Ken Caryl Valley, which I find to be a delightful place and I hope to report regularly on interesting birds I encounter there. Among locally uncommon species was a male LESSER GOLDFINCH that appeared at my feeding station on March 4, three days after it was established.
