I'm forwarding this for a visiting birder:

We arrived at the Loveland Pass pull-off at 10 this morning with the
somewhat vain hope of finding white-tailed ptarmigan. I've been recording
birds in CO for the past month and, somehow, never managed to get up to
ptarmigan country. We were greeted by two birds flying and calling in the
distance to the NNW. A third bird remained, calling, on the exposed rocks.
We walked upslope some 200m and got within 30' of the bird. I recorded
several calls. The birds seemed oblivious to the tourists, skiers, and even
a small dog out on the trail.
