COBirds, Painted Whitestart was present til dusk when I left this evening 1 May near the northwest corner of the campground. Mainly hanging out in the fruiting elms. Very active but pretty quiet. Sang briefly once or twice, and rarely gave it's very distinctive 2-3 syllable slurred whistle (like a sweeter Pine Sisken call, very unwarblerlike). Was calling more frequently after its ~7pm preening session as it did some last minute foraging before dark. Outstanding find by Cathy Sheeter!
Also present was a leucistic Myrtle Warbler among the handful of Yellow-rumps (of both types) as well as one Hermit Thrush and a gnatcatcher. Flickr page has a photo of the white Myrtle.
