Hello Cobirders. That quiet you hear was Turkey Creek Ranch (Fort Carson) in El Paso County. In its infinite wisdom, the army is discontinuing recreational activities at TCR. All the picnic tables have been removed along with the archery range and observation tower. I talked to several of the mounted color guard soldiers, and they blamed budget cuts. Not very birdy at TCR today. Although we had almost 40 species, the only ones with any real numbers were YR Warblers and Chipping Sparrows. The big miss was ZERO Lewis's Woodpeckers. I do not yet know the future of birding at the ranch, but I will keep you posted. Mel Goff Colorado Springs, CO
