Hello, Birders.

I just heard some Type 2 Red Crossbills flying low over Lafayette, eastern
Boulder County, this cloudy Wednesday morning (which reminds me, I need to
go put out the trash...), Aug. 13th. Probably headed to Chatfield or Cherry
Creek.

Speaking of Chatfield and Cherry Creek, I'll be, well, speaking about
Chatfield and Cherry Creek (and other things) tonight at The Boulder Book
Store. 7:30 p.m., 1107 Pearl Street (west end of the Pearl Street Mall).

Hope to see some of you tonight!

Oh, and Antero. Thanks to Elliott Gordon for his inquiry. I hope he and
others spend a lot of time there, starting yesterday. I have an idea about
birding the place that may seem odd, but bear with me. Here goes. The few
times I've been there, (a) I've been delighted by the good birds and even
greater potential of the place and (b) I've been a bit concerned about
flushing birds along the lake's edges. Last time I was there, Hannah and
Andrew and I figured out how not to disturb the birds: Do like the
fishermen, and just walk out a hundred or so feet *into* the lake. You get
great views of the birds on shore, they seem completely unperturbed by your
presence, and there's a pleasing sort of mild vertigo about the whole
experience of scoping (oh, yes, bring scope, distances are vast out there)
birds while having the feeling of walking on water.
