Hi All,

Will Clary and I birded around El Paso County this morning.

We spent about an hour, from 7:30 to 8:30 at Prospect Lake. There is much
more open water than it sounds like there was yesterday, so birds were a
bit more spread out. In close to shore was the *Black Scoter*, diving
frequently along with Buffleheads, Canvasback, Scaup, and a female Ruddy
Duck. A little ways out we saw a *Surf Scoter*,with a clear white patch on
the back of its head. We weren't able to find either of the White-winged.
Large numbers of waterfowl on the lake, constantly stirred up by a Bald
Eagle.

We then went to Big Johnson Reservoir, and spent a while scoping the water.
We found the continuing *White-winged Scoter* and *Long-tailed Duck*. Also
3 Common Loons and a few Clark's Grebes, along with many more expected
species. Two eagles were present here as well, along with many Red-tails
and a few Kestrels.

After that we did a brief walk through Fountain Creek Regional Park, where
highlights were Virginia Rail and several raptors: a very light juv.
Red-tail, a Cooper's Hawk, a Sharp-shinned bathing in the creek, and a
Harrier. We found three lingering RC Kinglets too.
