The Surf Scoter found day before yesterday by Rich Miller continued at the
Valco Pond on the west side of MacKenzie Ave. There is a parking lot on
the east side of MacKenzie across from that pond but those crossing the
road between the high volume of traffic going at least 50 mph should be
sure their insurance is paid up. There are also two places a passenger
vehicle can park on the west side of the road by the pond: vehicle gate-
with enough room to pull in front of the locked gate and be out of traffic;
and near the bridge there is enough level shoulder to pull over out of
traffic.

I got a pretty good photo of this Surf Scoter that I have uploaded to my
Birds and Nature blog. <http://birdsandnature.blogspot.com/> It shows a
dark brown eye which *Birds of North America* online states is found on
immature Surf Scoters.
