The weather here is predicted to get much colder later today. Apparently the birds know. In one hour this morning, 830-9:30, we saw ten different bird species in our small yard which has feeders and water: blue jays, a robin, starlings, a northern flicker, house sparrows, house finches, a mourning dove, Eurasian collared doves, a downy woodpecker and juncos. When I did the Thanksgiving Bird Count on a warm, calm day, I only recorded three species: blue jays, house finches and red-breasted nuthatches.
