I found a Black Phoebe in Florence River Park, the first I have seen there
for sometime (the brutal weather in November likely kept this insectivorous
species in the most protected areas where they could find flying insects to
sustain them). I got a couple of good photos of this bird, including one
that shows it's tail feathers well as it spread it's tail wide) that I have
uploaded to my Birds and Nature blog. <http://birdsandnature.blogspot.com/>

My delight at seeing this Black Phoebe was lessened by the efforts of the
town of Florence to 'improve' this previously excellent natural park--they
have removed most of the downed trees and branches and other 'clutter' plus
have been cutting down those trees they deemed in some unnecessary.
Additionally they are cutting across some of the best and most remote
wetland area to put in a superfluous bridge from a parking lot on the west
side to the trails on the east side. Fyi, since this park is adjacent to
the sewer district there is often a stench that while birders take it in
stride, most people avoid so there is limited use of this park with those
fishing, walking dogs off leash (not an off leash park), birders and
teenagers smoking dope the most common visitors. Very sad.
