I joined up with Gwen Moore and David GIllilan for a this morning of birding in
Jefferson and Denver Counties.

We started early at Red Rocks' Trading Post, early enough to see the adult
Golden-crowned Sparrow come out through a bit of a hold in the undergrowth,
grab a seed or two and dive back undercover rather than face off with hordes of
Western Scrub-Jays. We went into Morrison for American Dipper and then up to
Ira Sanders' feeders. At Ira there was one Brown-capped and one Gray-crowned
Rosy Finch at first, the about 6 more Gray-crowneds arrived. Also present were
4 Lesser Goldfinches, a couple of American Goldfinches, one Pine Siskin, a few
Cassin's Finches and House Finches making it a 7 finch stop.

We continued to Denver West Office Park where we walk around a great deal,
found a large flock of Bushtits and a small flock of Cedar Waxwings plus a
Brown Creeper, but no Pine Warbler. We stopped at a couple of the lakes in NW
Denver, but best by far was Rocky Mountain Lake which had 2 Lesser and 1
Greater Scaup, several Redhead and Ring-necked Ducks, Ruddy Duck and Common
Mergansers. I made Gwen and David work the cottonwoods hard until they could
show me a couple of Brown Creepers.
