Along with other birders at Pueblo Reservoir, Pueblo County today: Trumpeter Swan - 1 adult (found yesterday), appeared in NE part of the lake, along the rocks by the dam this afternoon.
Glaucous Gull - 1 1st year bird (found yesterday), made a quick visit at the South Shore Marina tires this afternoon. Glaucous-winged Gull x Herring Gull - 1 1st year bird, first seen at the ice-line by John Drummond and Charles Thornton-Kolbe in the early afternoon, was latter in NE Corner of the Reservoir, seen by David Chartier and I late in day. Great Black-backed Gull - 1 adult was roaming around from the South Shore Marina all the way to the ice-line at West Fishing Road. Lesser Black-backed Gull - 1 1st year late in the day in the NE Corner of Pueblo Reservoir. Red-throated Loon - 1 was still present this morning (seen by Margie Joy), along with five Common Loons near the dam, it was hiding this afternoon for most people, as was the Red-necked Grebe. Long-tailed Duck - 1 at West Fishing Road at the ice-line this morning seen by Robb Hinds. With the Red-necked Grebe being found this morning, all six species of Colorado grebes, were present on Pueblo Reservoir today (1 Clark's, few Westerns, quite a few Eared, Horned, and Pied-billed). The hunting going on at Pueblo Reservoir is making the goldeneye flock spread out all over the Reservoir, and probably many of the ducks are going off the reservoir to the River and other ponds that might be opening up to the east of the dam during the day. They usually come back by the dam late in the day. Long-tailed Duck, Barrow's Goldeneye, Greater Scaup, and White-winged Scoter have been seen in this flock of birds this month. I'm not sure the scoter is still around or not, the others should be around somewhere. Most of the gulls are leaving the Reservoir during the day too, and coming back late in the day. This weekend there were eight and half species of gulls around, with Mew, Thayer's, California, Ring-billed, Herring, Glaucous, Lesser Black-backed, Great Black-backed, and the Glaucous-winged x Herring hybrid. The Bonaparte's Gulls that were around early in the year, have left. Sage Thrashers continue to be seen around in the junipers at Pueblo Reservoir, as well as many Mountain Bluebirds. Both Loggerhead and Northern Shrikes were around this weekend at Pueblo Reservoir too.
