I walked west from 35th Avenue in Greeley on the Poudre Trail. First lake
had about 100 Canada Geese, mostly cackling. We saw a kingfisher, red
tailed hawk, numerous Chickadees, and a GB heron. At the second lake in on
the south side, there were thousands of geese on the south end of the lake
where there is open water. The distance was too great for me to identify
the geese with just binoculars, although we did not see any white geese.
There were a number of duck-like birds there, but I could not definitely id
any of them. Someone with a powerful scope would be able to. On the way
out, we saw a number of mallards and a female goldeneye in the river.
Anyway, not as good of birding as last winter, but not bad for a short walk
in and out on the trail.
