I was hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park today on the trail to Bear
Lake. Just as the trail opens up at Bear Lake and about 20 feet off the
trail there was a male American Three-toed Woodpecker working a downed log.
There were many hikers and it seemed unconcerned as I observed it for about
ten minutes. This was about 2:00 PM on Friday. This bird may not be
reportable but it is only the second one I've ever seen and the looks were
killer.
