Yesterday afternoon while cycling home from getting a haircut I heard a raven calling me over Edgewater (25th & Ames in JeffCo), and looked up to see 2 birds circling and heading east towards Sloan's Lake. I rode underneath them along the N. side of Sloan's, when 1 bird disappeared.
When I got home (near the park) I spotted the other raven WAAAYYY up, and noticed it was circling with a large soaring buteo - extremely light in colour, so I got binoculars on it, and it turned out to be a ferruginous hawk! The raven gave it some guff a few times, and they continued circling north while the other raven hung out at the lake getting harassed by a few crows. eBird has no ferruginous hawk records for west Denver, and since the bird was over Sloan's when I first saw it, I'll count it for my Sloan's list, and that would make it species #130 for the lake... -Matthew Baker Denver, CO -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Colorado Birds" group.
