COBirders-- Two days ago (Friday) in a message I posted to this forum I
mentioned I was hoping to see Mourning Doves in my back yard since I hadn't
seen any yet this year. Today I learned that Clif and Pearle
Sandstrom-Smith have them in their back yard about ten blocks away. Some
Mourning Doves used to winter over fairly regularly in Pueblo County but
have been very scarce to absent for several years. They are numerous here
during spring migration but not so much during the summer. Eurasian
Collared-Dove numbers are still high but in the southwest part of the city
the less aggressive White-winged Doves seem to be out-breeding them.
