Bill (and anyone else who might be interested)—

You asked, “Great Egret is only listed [in the BBA] as having bred along
Boulder Creek 8 miles East of Boulder. Is this still the case? 1998 was a
long time ago now and the data was from a few years before that at least.”

You can access the mapped data from the 2nd Breeding Bird Atlas here:
http://bird.atlasing.org/Atlas/CO/. Click on the “view results” tab at the far
right. Select a species from the drop down box and click “go.” The basic map
that is the default seems less useful to me because it’s broken down by the
Regions, so I switch to “map” and then zoom in to see more detail. If you do
that for Great Egret, you’ll see that the few confirmations stretched from
Longmont to east of Greeley, with a handful of “Possibles” and “Probables”
scattered around that line.
You also asked “Also any idea on when the COBBA2 is going to be published?”

I’m one of a small group of folks working toward the final version of the 2nd
Colorado Breeding Bird Atlas. Our editing subgroup is currently in the final
copy-editing and reference citation management stages. Hard to estimate how
long finishing that process will take (frankly, I don’t want to ask), coupled
with all of the layout tasks. But things are moving along, thanks to the
gracious, good-natured, and extremely competent coordination of the myriad
pieces by Lynn Wickersham. People can now pre-order the Atlas at
http://www.cobreedingbirdatlasii.org/book.asp. If your 1st Breeding Bird Atlas
is as dog-eared and binding-broken as mine is, you’ll want to get the new one
ASAP.
