Urling and I ran the Red Cliff BBS route last Wednesday on a beautiful day. The route starts at the top of Vail Pass, goes down the Shrine Pass road and then up Homestake Creek to the dam.
The flowers didn't match the spectacular blooms in the foothills such as Newton Park and Castlewood Canyon, but the Marsh Marigolds bloom in profusion right now. More later. Most abundant birds: 50 Ruby-crowned Kinglets, 47 Lincoln's Sparrows, 37 White-crowneds, 35 Audubon's Warlbers, 27 robins, 24 Broad-tailed Humm., and 22 Hermit Thrushes. 404 birds of 41 species, about average for the route. Where we stopped for lunch we saw what we think could be a Boreal Toad (Mountain Toad). Does anyone know of someone who could identify this from a photograph?
