We had a home in Coaldale, about 5 miles east of Howard, for over 20 years and
had ~100 nest boxes on our 39 acres of pinyon/juniper habitat. Every year we
would have at least 2 Ash-throated Flycatcher pairs use our nest
boxes--sometimes as many as 4 or 5. When we atlased the Howard block for
Breeding Bird Atlas II, we found them in other areas of the block as well. I
can't guarantee that Janet has ID'd the bird correctly, although I have
corresponded with her about other birds in the area and she is pretty good at
identification of the area's common birds. So it wouldn't surprise me in the
least that one would be in the area and using a nest box.

I'm forwarding this from Dan George, a prot?g?e of Bill Brockner. Thought this
was probably the best place to post it.

Silvia Brockner (now in Assisted living in Evergreen) received a letter from an
old birding friend, who advised her of an Ash-throated Flycatcher nest box in
her YARD.
* The person in whose yard this bird is located is: JANET MALLOW, PO
Box 357, Howard Colorado. Telephone# 719-942-3090.
* If someone were to phone Janet, it is my guess that she would welcome
the call with "open arms" (i.e. as she knew the great/late Bill Brockner).
* I have no information other than what I add here. I do not know
Janet - and I cannot certify that this bird is correctly identified!
* Silvia told me that the adults are using Janet's backyard "nest box".
If nothing else, this lead is probably worth investigating.
