Hello, Birders. It was a nice Sunday morning, Oct. 25, at Teller Farms, Boulder County, overcast and chilly.
Thanks to David Dowell for pointing out to me the recently returned *golden-crowned sparrow*; here's audio <http://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/20550481?__hstc=60209138.77d11575d3dd970a18bda76c95f27c37.1445544363683.1445798318078.1445805995022.10&__hssc=60209138.2.1445805995022&__hsfp=97844842> of the bird's beautiful song. Among the many white-crowned sparrows at Teller was an adult *dark-lored white-crowned sparrow*, likely of the nominate Eastern subspecies *leucophrys*. Other sparrows included two latish *Lincoln sparrows* and a smattering of recently returned *American tree sparrows <http://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/20550791?__hstc=60209138.77d11575d3dd970a18bda76c95f27c37.1445544363683.1445798318078.1445805995022.10&__hssc=60209138.2.1445805995022&__hsfp=97844842>* . Also at Teller Farms this morning: 1 *Virginia rail*; many flyby gulls, one of which was likely a first-cycle lesser black-backed (but one is careful with gulls in flight); a female *great horned owl* posing like a greater prairie-chicken <http://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/20550711?__hstc=60209138.77d11575d3dd970a18bda76c95f27c37.1445544363683.1445798318078.1445805995022.10&__hssc=60209138.2.1445805995022&__hsfp=97844842>; and a latish *orange-crowned warbler <http://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/20550641?__hstc=60209138.77d11575d3dd970a18bda76c95f27c37.1445544363683.1445798318078.1445805995022.10&__hssc=60209138.2.1445805995022&__hsfp=97844842>* .
