Greetings, The Bird Conservancy of the Rockies will be compiling data for the seventeenth consecutive Barrow’s Goldeneye (BAGO) count again this year. In 2015, we will be accepting data collected 21 November through 6 December. The reason for this count is to monitor the wintering population of this species in Colorado since it is possible that all BAGO in the state during this time period represents the Colorado breeding population. However, no one knows for certain if some BAGO migrate from Wyoming or further north.
We appreciate any reports of BAGO in Colorado during the count period. We encourage everyone to enter their count totals into the eBird database. I will check eBird for BAGO reported during this time period for those of you that don't post on CoBirds or WSBN. Or, you can send count totals to me at this e-mail address or jason DOT beason AT birdconservancy DOT org. Here are the totals for each year of the count: 1999 – 226 at 8 sites 2000 – 107 at 16 sites (less effort) 2001 – 181 at 20 sites 2002 – 189 at 16 sites 2003 – 245 at 21 sites 2004 – 226 at 14 sites 2005 – 219 at 16 sites 2006 – 280 at 21 sites 2007 – 225 at 17 sites 2008 – 183 at 19 sites 2009 – 163 at 16 sites 2010 – 163 at 16 sites 2011 – 217 at 24 sites 2012 – 214 at 19 sites 2013 – 247 at 19 sites 2014 – 152 at 19 sites Locations where BAGO were counted in 2014: County Location Adams Rocky Mtn Arsenal NWR - Lower Derby Lake Adams South Platte River @ 88th Ave Arapahoe Cherry Creek State Park Arapahoe Southe Platte Park Chaffee Sands Lake SWA Douglas Platte Canyon Reservoir Eagle Spring Park Reservoir Garfield Rifle Gap Reservoir Grand Lake Granby Larimer Timnath Reservoir Mesa Collbran, 5052 Colorado 330 Mesa Jerry Creek Pond Mesa Molina - Hwy 330 ponds Moffat Craig Station Inlet Pond Park Eleven Mile Reservoir Routt Stagecoach Reservoir Summit Silverthorne Water Treatment Plant Weld Poudre Ponds Weld Union Reservoir Thank you and Good Birding!
