Team BrachyRAMphus spent a good chunk of the day searching bodies of water
in eastern Larimer County in search of waterbirds today. Our first stop
was at Boulder County's version of Terry Lake, where we could not find the
Red-throated Loon that had been reported recently. The lake did have a
decent number of Bonaparte's Gulls, our first Common Goldeneyes of the
season, and a Prairie Falcon. Our next stop back in our home county was at
Boyd Lake where we found at least 8 Common Loons at multiple stops on the
eastern side of the lake. There is a nice area where you can park and scan
towards the northern edge of the lake where we were able to see 4 Common
Loons at once. A young Snow Goose was also a little unexpected. After a
quick stop for food, we checked Fossil Creek which had a nice assortment of
the expected waterfowl. Timnath Reservoir had a lot of gulls, but most of
the Herring/Thayer's were too far away to identify to species. The
northeast corner had several Least Sandpipers, but no other shorebirds.
Cobb Lake brought our loon total to double digits for the day with 2 birds,
and the Larimer County Windsor Reservoir had at least 23 Horned Grebes.

Good Birding!
