John Vanderpoel and I led a convivial group of 10 for a Boulder Audubon Society
field trip on a 470-loop around Denver today.

We began things well with a Snow Goose seen from our gathering spot on the
Boulder-Longmont Diagonal in Niwot. At Boulder Reservoir we had our only
Bonaparte's Gull and Common Goldeneye (are they slow arriving this year?).

We then slipped down to Chatfield where we had 4 Red-necked Grebes scattered
about as well as a pair of Common Loons. The South Platte Park Surf Scoters
continue as well. Counties in this area are balkanized as you know, but of the
above birds I would say that JeffCO was 3-0-2 and DougCO was 1-2-0 (sorry
ArapCo, you will have to wait for the next two stops).

Cherry Creek SP was also just covered with birds the best of which were 3
Common Loons and a Lesser Black-backed Gull adult. Aurora Reservoir was even
more covered with birds and highlights were a 1st year Thayer's Gull, an adult
Lesser Black-backed Gull and a couple of Snow Geese.

A beautiful Colorado November day with a high temp of 66, calm winds and not a
cloud in the sky. I hope you got to enjoy it too.
