Present in the northwest corner of Lake Loveland at noon today, 12/5:
DUNLIN (2) first found by Irene Fortune several days ago
Killdeer (7)
Lesser Black-backed Gull (1a)
California Gull (several)
Herring Gull (few)
White Pelican (at least 6)
Hooded Merganser (at least 3)
Bonaparte's Gull (at least 2)
I checked the pine trees on the upper part of the Swim Beach for Pine Warbler
(present here a few years ago at about this time) but saw nothing. I did not
scope the waterfowl in the east end of Lake Loveland but with binocular looks
do not think any loons were present.
A man who had catered a party for 1800 health care workers and their families
last night dumped two huge leaf bags full of leftover buttered popcorn on the
beach w of the Swim Beach. All the above gull species, mallards and crows had
a feast. It was all I could do not to join them, and amazing how quickly the
gulls cleaned up that amount of food.
