I counted 22 FOY White Pelicans on Highland Lake this am. More have arrived since. The Ring-billed Gulls are still around, but not in the numbers they once were. No sign of Eagles, but several Red-tailed Hawks are in the area, as well as one very persistent Prairie Falcon. It wants one of my hens for its dinner, but they are almost twice as big as it is. He/she landed on one of them, but my hen was able to shake it off. Now my chickens are on red alert and run for cover whenever they see a shadow fly by. My hen is fine, not even a scratch.
I think most of the fish and crawdads are now gone from Highland Lake. The main road into Highlandlake/Highland Lake, is closed this week for outlet ditch repairs. They are ways around, but there is so much noise from the equipment, I don't know that you will see much of anything except what I mentioned above.
