Hi COBirders,

For the past four days we have been seeing a female Hairy Woodpecker in our
yard, in Mountain Shadows, NW Colorado Springs. While not rare, it is only the
second one we’ve seen here in 26 years. We get many Downy Woodpeckers, and as
many as five flickers at a time, but not Hairys. (BTW, we are only about 300m
from Marty Wolf’s house, where he recently reported the Yellow-bellied
Sapsucker).

Against the foothills here, we are also seeing more migrant raptors, with 13
soaring Red-tails Saturday, and more accipiters cruising by, too, scaring the
siskins and juncos.

Good birding,
Steve Brown
Colorado Springs
