The story of the first 4 days of banding at Chatfield is about
Yellow-rumped Warblers. So far, almost half of the birds caught have been
Yellow-rumpeds - 24 Myrtles, 25 Audubons, and 4 Intergrades for a total of
52. Not a record - that was 104 in 2009 (and a year we had a fall-out),
but way more than the 3 we caught last year. And, of course, there will
likely be more to come. Today, they kept us going - 14 of our 20 new birds.

Here's the break-down of the 20 new and 2 returns:

House Wren 1 (banded 5/13/15)
Yellow-rumped Warbler, Myrtle 7
Yellow-rumped Warbler, Audubon 6
Yellow-rumped Warbler, Intergrade 1
Chipping Sparrow 1
Song Sparrow 1
White-crowned Sparrow, Gambel's 3
White-crowned Sparrow, Mountain 1
Brown-headed Cowbird 1 (banded 2014)

Open daily, weather permitting, through June 2, EXCEPT for May 13, 14, and
30. It is almost always better to visit early in the morning. We are
opening nets at 6:30, and most days will have birds back at the station by
7:15. There are school groups every weekday, arriving about 9:45. We aim to
close by noon most days, earlier if it is very hot, very cold, or very
windy.
