Greetings Again Colorado Birders:

My apologies for the double-posting, but I forgot to include a couple of
important pieces of information in my earlier post about the Breeding Bird
Atlas website and book. I am so excited about the upcoming publication of
the book I neglected to include the following (but see original post pasted
below):

1) Colorado Field Ornithologists (CFO) is one of five supporting Partners
to the Atlas and in doing so have contributed critically to long-term
conservation of Colorado's birds. Publication of the Atlas II book would
not be possible without significant financial contributions from the CFO!

2) Breeding Bird Atlases are primarily volunteer driven. *Hundreds* of CFO
members volunteered their time to collect Atlas data across the state over
6 years (2007-2012). In addition, CFO members also wrote many of the 262
detailed species accounts in the Atlas book. Their contributions to
long-term bird conservation should be celebrated and will be forever
chronicled in the book!

2) One of the best reasons for buying the Atlas II book---the striking
illustrations created by Pueblo-based artist Radeaux! The Atlas includes
full color illustrations for roughly 270 species including images of adult
birds, young, nests, and surrounding habitats. As an avid and long-time
Colorado birder, Radeaux's unique talent brings Colorado's breeding bird to
life in the Atlas!

Thanks for listening!!!

*Original Post*

"The new website database for *The Second Colorado Breeding Bird Atlas* is
live and available for use at *www.cobreedingbirdatlasii.org
<http://www.cobreedingbirdatlasii.org/>*. There you may view partial
results of Atlas II including current species distribution maps and
comparative maps of distribution across Atlas I and Atlas II (20-yr
interval). The website allows users to query any species and view a list of
Atlas blocks in which each species was detected with the highest breeding
evidence. Conversely, users may query any Atlas block, priority or
non-priority, and view a list of species and highest breeding evidence for
each block. What you will *NOT* see on the website are detailed accounts
for 262 Colorado breeders, plus short accounts for about two dozen more. To
gain access to that information you must purchase *The Second Colorado
Breeding Bird Atlas*, a 750+ page book that follows in the footsteps of the
landmark achievement *Colorado Breeding Bird Atlas*, published in 1998 and
edited by Colorado’s own Hugh E. Kingery.

At this time, we are working on the final edits to the book layout in
preparation for publication and printing. Co-publishers Colorado Bird Atlas
Partnership and Colorado Parks and Wildlife seek to pre-sell as many copies
as possible and implement a mass distribution upon book launch. Pre-orders
will gauge the print run and insure coverage of the many costs of
publication. Due to the high costs of printing, we will likely print only
slightly more books than the number of pre-orders we receive; thus, few
copies may be available after the initial book launch. If you would like to
add this important book to your collection, please consider placing a
pre-order soon. Proceeds from the sale of the book will go directly towards
publication costs. Any amount leftover will be saved for the initiation of
Atlas III (in 2027)! Breeding Bird Atlases are critical for large-scale,
long-term monitoring of breeding bird populations, unparalleled by other
techniques. You can support continued Atlas efforts in Colorado by
pre-ordering *The Second Colorado Breeding Bird Atlas*. Please visit
*www.cobreedingbirdatlasii.org
<http://www.cobreedingbirdatlasii.org/>* to pre-order your book today!"

Good Birding,
