---On August 24, staff at Rocky Mt Arsenal NWR reported 2 Broad-winged
Hawks and Least Flycatcher.
---On August 22, a Red-headed Woodpecker was reported by Loch Kilpatrick on
E 96th Ave east of DIA.
---On August 22, a Mississippi Kit was reported by Loch Kilpatrick east of
Bennett on Old Victory Road.
ALAMOSA COUNTY:
---On August 23, David Dowel reported 3 Snowy Plovers, WESTERN GULL, and
Lesser Black-backed Gull at Blanca Wetlands.
ARAPAHOE COUNTY:
---On August 22, a Red-headed Woodpecker was reported by Ivan Mota near
Byers on Hwy 40.
---On August 20, Glenn Walbek reported Gray Flycatcher and 3 Ovenbirds at
Cherry Creek SP.
---On August 14, Gene Rutherford reported Red-headed Woodpecker on CO 36
west of Byers.
BACA COUNTY:
---On August 14, 2 Greater Roadrunners were reported by Chris Goulart on CR

---On August 22, a juv Little Blue Heron was reported by Carl Starace at
Walden Ponds in Boulder.
---OnAugust 17, a Cassin's Kingbird was reported by Christian Nunes on
South Campus of University of Colorado.
---On August 7 at Heil Valley Ranch, Carl Starace reported 3 Lewis's
Woodpeckers and 2 Red-headed Woodpeckers. On August 18, a Red-headed
Woodpecker was reported by Jeff Parks at Heil Valley Ranch.
---On August 6 in Shadow Canyon, Andy Cowell reported m American Three-toed
Woodpecker in the lower part of the canyon and a Dusky Grouse at the top of
the canyon.
---On June 24 a singing stub-tailed wren (Winter/Pacific) was reported by
Steve Mlodinow in Wild Basin of Rocky Mt NP just N of bridge that leads
away from Calypso Cascade towards Ouzel Falls. On June 28, a Pacific Wren
was reported by Bill Rowe just below Calypso Cascades in Wild Basin of
Rocky Mt NP. On July 4, Kathy Mihm Dunning reported Pacific Wren at
Calypso Cascades in Wild Basin of Rocky Mt NP. On July 9 at Wild Basin in
Rocky Mt NP, David Dowell reported Pacific Wren, Black Swift on nest, 2
American Three-toed Woodpeckers. On July 16, at Wild Basin, Ouzel Falls in
Rocky Mountain NP, Nick Moore reported Pacific Wren. On July 19 Tim Mitzen
reported Pacific Wren near Calypso Cascades in Wild Basin of Rocky Mt NP.
On July 23 Chris Gilbert reported Pacific Wren at Ouzel Falls in Wild Basin
of Rocky Mt NP. On July 20, Todd Deininger reported Pacific Wren at
Calypso Cascades in Wild Basin of Rocky Mt NP. On July 24 Christian Nunes
reported 2 Black Swifts and 4 Pacific Wrens at Wild Basin of Rocky Mt NP.
On July 29, Sue Riffe reported Pacific Wren, 2 American Three-toed
Woodpeckers and 7 Black Swifts at Wild Basin of Rocky Mt NP. On August
10, Peter Gent reported a juvenile Black Swift on nest under the overhand
west of Ouzel Falls in Wild Basin of Rocky Mt NP.

---On August 24 at Mount Evans, Sean Fitzgerald reported Sage Thrasher and
16 Brown-capped Rosy-Finches.
---On August 16, 4 Barrow's Goldeneyes were reported by Nick Varvel at Echo
Lake.

---On August 24 a Gray Flycatcher was reported by Loch Kilpatrikc at Box
Elder Creek at E 104th Ave.
---On August 20 a Red-headed Woodpecker was reported by Doug Kibbe and Jeff
Dawson at Box Elder Creek at E 104th.
---On August 17 a Greater Roadrunner was reported by Nate Wojcik at the NW
corner of Speer and Auraria. On August 18, a Greater Roadrunner was
reported by Gabriel Wiltse N of Auraria Parkway in a large empty field SW
of Pepsi Center.
DOUGLAS COUNTY:
---On August 20 a Caspian Tern was reported by Glenn Walbek at the Marina
Sandpit at Chatfield SP.
EAGLE COUNTY:
---On August 12, 3 White-tailed Ptarmigan (1 ad, 2 young) were reported by
Scott Dieni on Deming Mt at about 12,000 ft, NE of summit.
---An American Three-toed Woodpecker was reported by Bob Righter on Cross
Creek Trail about 4 miles south of Minturn on July 28.
EL PASO COUNTY:
---On August 21, a Pacific Loon was reported by david Tonnessen, Joy and
Leonard Lake at Big Johnson.
---On August 17, a Northern Waterthrush was reported by Alan Versaw at Ice
Lake at the Air Force Acacdemy.
---On August 11 at Clear Spring Ranch, Steve Brown reported that he banded
a Northern Waterthrush. On August 13, Steve Brown banded a second Northern
Waterthrush. On August 17, Steve Brown banded 2 more Northern
Waterthrush. On August 21, Steve Brown reported that he banded another
hatch year Northern Waterthrush. On August 22, Monday Birders reported
Gray Flycatcher and Northern Waterthrush at Clear Spring Ranch and Steve
Brown reported banding another Northern Waterthrush. On August 24, Steve
Brown reported banding 3 more Northern Waterthrush.
---On August 11 at Chico Basin Ranch (fee area), Diane Morton reported a
Gray Flycatcher. On August 17, Dan Stringer reported a Red-headed
Woodpecker at Chico Basin Ranch.
GUNNISON COUNTY:
---On August 16 a Gray Flycatcher was reported by Bob Spencer on Spainero
Mesa Road.
---On August 12, 4 Gunnison Sage-Grouse were reported by Gary Koehn on Rd
26 (Sapinero Mesa Road). One bird was about 1/4 mile off Rd 26 on Rd 3014c
and 3 were on Rd 26 at Mile 6.
HUERFANO COUNTY:
---On August 10, Polly Wren Neldner reported a juv Green Heron at a small
pond W of Horseshoe Lake in Lathrop SP.
KIT CARSON COUNTY:
---On August 15, a Gray Flycatcher and Northern Cardinal were reported by
Glenn Walbek at Kit Carson County Carousel near
Burlington.
JEFFERSON COUNTY:
---On August 24, a Caspian Tern was reported by Doug Kibbe at Chatfield
Swim Beach.
---On August 24, at Belmar Park, Chris Wood reported Gray Flycatcher and
Nashville Warbler.
LARIMER COUNTY:
---On August 24, at Wellington SWA Cobb Lake Unit, Andy Bankert reported
Gray Flycathcer and Black-throated Gray Warbler.
---On August 21, 2 Green Herons (ad, imm) were reported by Richard
Herrington at Running Deer Natural Area.
---On August 21 Scott Rashid reported 2 Black-throated Gray Warblers at
Lake Estes.
---On August 29 a Northern Waterthrush was banded by Scott Rashid at YMCA
at Estes Park.
---On August 19, a Mallard (Mexican) was reported by Nick Komar, David
Wade, and Walter Wehtje at Horseshoe Reservoir. On August 23, 2 Mallards
(Mexican) were reported by Andy Bankert and Nick Komar at Horseshoe
Reservoir.
---On August 15 an American Three-toed Woodpecker was reported by Richard
Han in the West Alluvial Fan Area of Rocky Mountain National Park.
---On August 14, 1-2 Caspian Terns were reported by Renee Casias, Christine
and RIchard Sparks and many other birders at Timnath Reservoir.
---On August 11, Nick Komar reported a 3-rd cycle Mew Gull at Boyd Lake.
On August 16, Nick Komar and David Wade reported a Mew Gull at Boyd Lake.

---On August 18, a young Green Heron was reported by Leon Stigen on Blue
Heron Pond on the Blue Heron Trail.
---On August 17 an American Three-toed Woodpecker was reported by Nic Korte
in the Fruita Reservoir # 1.
---On August 8, Mike Henwood reported a Green Heron at Redlands Parkway
Ponds.
MONTROSE COUNTY:
---On August 9 a NEOTROPIC CORMORANT was reported by Maureen Briggs at
Chipeta Lake SWA.
---On August 7 a NEOTROPIC CORMORANT was reported by Sandy Beranich at
Baldridge and Ute Parks. On August 18, Sandy Beranich reported NEOTROPIC
CORMORANT at Baldridge and Ute Parks.
OTERO COUNTY:
---On August 13, Stan Oswald reported 2 Greater Roadrunners, Chihuahuan
Raven, and 2 Rufous-crowned Sparrows in Vogel Canyon.
PARK COUNTY:
---On August 11 an American Three-Toed Woodpecker was reported by Gene and
Polly Reetz on Limber Grove Trail off of Four Mile Road in the Mosquito
Range.
PITKIN COUNTY:
---On August 24 in Basalt, Alessandro Molina reported 2 Gray Flycatchers
and 3 Black-throated Gray Warblers.
PROWERS COUNTY:
---On August 16, Dave Leatherman reported a ratty looking Pine Warbler at
Fairmount Cemetery on Memorial Drive in Lamar.
---On August 16, a Northern Cardinal was reported by Dave Leatherman at
Lamar Community College Woods.
PUEBLO COUNTY:
---On August 24, Brandon Percival reported imm m Williamson's Sapsucker,
Northern Waterthrush, and 2 Black Phoebe at Valco Ponds.
---On August 17, Dan Stringer reported a Red-headed Woodpecker at Chico
Basin Ranch (fee area).
WASHINGTON COUNTY:
---On August 18, Steve Mlodinow reported WESTERN GULL, 9 Red-headed
Woodpeckers, Least Flycatcher, and Baltimore Oriole at Prewitt Reservoir.

and Nashville Warbler.
---On August 15 a Lesser Black-backed Gull was reported by Steve Mlodinow
at Woods Lake.
---On August 14 an ALDER FLYCATCHER was reported by Steve Mlodinow at St
Varin SP on the path along the N side of Mallard Pond.
YUMA COUNTY:
---On August 21 at Stalker Lake in Wray, Steve Mlodinow reported 3
Red-headed Woodpeckers, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Great Crested Flycatcher, 7
Northern Cardinals, and 2 Baltimore Orioles.
---On August 21 at the windbreak at CR 51 and US 385, Steve Mlodinow
reported 2 Red-headed Woodpeckers, ALDER FLYCATCHER, Least Flycatcher,
Tennessee Warbler, and 2 Baltimore Orioles.
Denver Field Ornithologists Field Trips:
The DFO Field Trip for Saturday, August 27 will be to Jackson Lake
Reservoir led by Bob Shade (wrshade3 AT gmail.com; 303-975-2476). Meet at
9799 at Colorado Parks and Wildlife, 6060 N Broadway. Exit I-25 at 58th
Ave, go west 2 blocks to Broadway, then north 2 blocks to parking lot on
right to carpool. State parks pass or day pass required.
This is an all-day trip that will include Morgan County playas looking
for shorebirds and fall migrant passerines. Bring lunch, plenty of water,
bug spray, and sunscreen. Scopes will be helpful. Will combine into no
more than 5 cars. Register online or contact leader.
The DFO Field Trip for Sunday, August 28 will be to Prewitt and Jackson
Reservoirs led by Joey Kellner (vireo1 AT comcast.net; 303-978-1748) Meet
at 0530 at Colorado Parks and Wildlife, 5050 N Bro
\adway to carpool. Exit I-25 at 58th Ave, go west 2 blocks to Broadway,
then north 2 blocks to parking lot on right. State Parks Pass and
JumboRes/Prewitt Res access Permit required.
This is an all-day trip so bring snacks, lunch, plenty of water,
sunscreen, long pants, and bug spray. Register on line or contact leader.
