I finally had a day off and made it to Prewitt Reservoir, and found the
Western Gull. It is still present, at least as of 9 ish this morning. I
found it on a sand bar with a whole lot of pelicans and Franklin's Gulls,
the pelicans gave me an idea of that bird's size, what a large gull! It was
still smaller then the pelicans but not by much, not not dwarfed by them
like most every thing else is. My Sibley guide states this bird is rarly
found more then a mile away from sat water, so what the heck this bird is
doing hear I don't know. I found many many shorebirds in the only good
mudflat also, which is located in the area that is the campground. I did
not have much luck with anything else, I found only a few non water birds,
kingbirds and some starlings. There was a heavy presence of dove hunters so
I did not explore the south end as much. The Logan County side yielded
little but some pelicans and a grackle. On the way back I stopped at Brush
Stat Wildlife Area (Morgan county) and did not find much exiting, except a
Cassin's Kingbird, a lifer for me. Over all a rather fun day, here is my
checklists,
