Hi Birders!

Our fall migration banding season officially began here at Chico Basin
Ranch (fee area) this past week and will continue through Saturday, October
1st. We're off to a great start having banded a little under 200 birds of
27 species. Highlights were definitely the Great-crested Flycatcher on
Saturday, the second in our history of banding here (the first was in 2011)
and drumroll please.... a BELL's VIREO, eastern nonetheless, banded this
morning!! Again, only the second time that the Bird Conservancy of the
Rockies has banded one at Chico Basin Ranch and the last time was in 2002.

Other than those pretty rare-ish highlights, we're seeing the usual
suspects for this time of year- a lot of Wilson's Warblers, Brown
Thrashers, House Wrens, and the spizella are just starting to arrive with a
mixed (Clay-coloured, Chipping, and Brewer's) flock of 30 being caught on
Saturday.

Our Barn Owls are still hanging around and flying pretty low during the day
and the birders who stopped by the station today were treated with many a
good photo opportunity of them.

As aforementioned, our banding season continues through October 1st and if
you're in the area, please stop by and say hi and see what we've been
catching as you just never know this time of year; it's so exciting!
