Still a modest number of birds but a more interesting morning! Started the
day with a GREAT CRESTED FLYCATCHER! A big and beautiful and feisty bird.
The second for the station - the first was caught in 2013 the day after
the big storm. We also had our first White-crowned Sparrows; I thought
this was early, but just checked and our first last year was on 9/1. In the
breakdown for the day, you will note fewer warbler species and more
seed-eaters:

Downy Woodpecker 1
Hammond's Flycatcher 1 (FOS)
Great Crested Flycatcher 1
House Wren 1
Wilson's Warbler 18
Clay-colored Sparrow 2
Brewer's Sparrow 1
White-crowned Sparrow, Gambel's 3 (FOS)
Lazuli Bunting 1

We are open 6 days each week, weather permitting, through October 16. We
are closed every Monday in September, then October 4 and 12. We are opening
nets at about 6:30 a.m. and we start closing between 11 a.m. and 12 noon.
We will open later and/or close earlier if it is very hot, very cold, wet,
windy, etc. There are school groups most weekday mornings, usually arriving
around 9:30. Best times to visit, if you like lots of birds and fewer
humans, are early mornings during the week and Sundays.

Come visit!
