Children of all ages brought their mothers to the banding station as part of the annual Mother's Day event sponsored by Audubon Society of Greater Denver. They were treated to a nice array of our usual mid-May birds:
Downy Woodpecker (FOS) 1 Least Flycatcher 1, banded in 2016 House Wren 1 new, 1 banded in 2016 Gray Catbird 3 Yellow Warbler 5 new, 1 banded in 2016, 1 in 2013 American Redstart 1 Common Yellowthroat 1 Wilson's Warbler 1 Yellow-breasted Chat 1, banded 2016 Spotted Towhee 1 Bullock's Oriole 1 The banding station runs daily, weather permitting, through June 1 (except Memorial Day), from 7:00 to approximately 11:30. There have been some changes in WEEKEND visiting policies - If you are planning a weekend visit, I strongly encourage you to go to Denveraudubon.org to get more information and guarantee your spot by PRE-REGISTERING. Weekdays are the same as in the past - school groups arrive between 9:30 and 10; early weekday mornings are the best time for a peaceful visit with us and the birds!
