DFO took a field trip to eastern Arapahoe County today, adding some 16 new species to the Big Month. The Big Month total (species found on DFO field trips with in a 9-county area centered on the Denver Metro area) is now up to 175 species. Progress can be viewed here: https://dfobirds.org/FieldTrips/Reports/BigYear.aspx (click on "select report" in the upper left and choose Big Month May 2017).
Our stop at Richmil Ranch Open space was productive with migrants popping up all over in some areas. Highlights there were 4 *Eastern Bluebirds*, *Willow Flycatcher*, *Dusky Flycatcher*, lots of *Swainson's Thrushes*, *Clay-colored Sparrows*, 12 *Cassin's Kingbirds*, a field full over at least 50 *Western Kingbirds* and more. We missed *Red-headed Woodpecker* on our main stop at Richmil, but found one when we stopped in again later. Other migrants such as *Black Tern*, *Blue Grosbeak*, *Rock Wren*, *Grasshopper Sparrow*, *Lincoln's Sparrow* and *Blue-gray Gnatcatcher* were enjoyed elsewhere. A *Burrowing Owl *and a pair of *Northern Harriers *continued at CR 269. Of course we added *Lark Bunting* for the Big Month, which was essential as it is DFO's logo bird. There are 9 (!) more field trips in these last several days of May, some still with spaces available: https://dfobirds.org/FieldTrips/UpcomingTrips.aspx David Suddjian Ken Caryl Valley Littleton, CO -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Colorado Birds" group.
