So our quest was to find as many species in a San Luis Valley Half Day! We expected winds in the afternoon that would generally shut the birding down so the half day seemed appropriate. John Stump, Jerry Poe and I gave it a go. I am happy to report that we finished at high noon with 108 species and the last one was a doozey. I found a White-eyed Vireo in the last 15 minutes at the black tee at the Alamosa Golf Course (Alamosa County) as it flitted among the lower branches of Russian Olive. The vireo is only the 4th record for the San Luis Valley. Other species included Olive-sided Flycatcher, Red Crossbills, Red-naped Sapsucker, and Yellow-breasted Chat. Twas a great day out birding with friends....and no winds!
