I was talking to our former biologist at work (she retired earlier this year
and now comes in on a volunteer basis) the other day about this since she
brought up that I ought to keep my eyes and ears out for them in the coming
weeks.

Similar to the alfalfa habitat you mentioned, she had said that in her
experience here, they are most often found in large stands of yellow sweet
clover. I guess we had a number of them here last year but she said they really
are finicky about the HEIGHT of the cover that they choose to nest in and since
we ended up mowing the sight they were useing shortly after they arrived, they
moved on.
